Focus: Filming and editing professional content using a smartphone
Length: 4 hours over 2 classes
Description:
This badge blends mobile journalism with social media-savvy editing. Students will learn how to capture high-quality video and audio using their smartphones, covering framing, lighting, mic techniques, and mobile stabilization. They'll also be trained to edit their content using apps like CapCut, mastering effects, subtitles, and audio tools for short-form storytelling.
A key focus will be on formatting: students will practice shooting both vertically for reels (Instagram, TikTok, YouTube Shorts) and horizontally for use in Hōʻike’s broadcast programs and The Hōʻike Weekly. Participants will also learn the difference in audience and tone between social and cable platforms.
Access Granted: Graduates may submit smartphone-produced content for Hōʻike’s cable broadcast, including The Hōʻike Weekly, or for digital/social media platforms managed by the organization. -
This course will include:
Lighting fundamentals
Green screen basics
Studio backdrop usage
Studio workflow and production setup
Completion of this course would certify producers to independently use and rent the studio for their own productions.
