Hawaii Children's Theatre Launches HCT Theatre Academy, Unveiling Exciting Courses for Young Aspiring Actors
Hawaii Children's Theatre (HCT) is thrilled to announce the launch of its highly anticipated HCT Theatre Academy, a comprehensive series of courses designed to nurture the creative talents of young individuals in the world of performing arts. The academy's inaugural courses kick off on January 13th with an Acting & Production for Film program, presented in partnership with Hōʻike Kauai Community Television.
The Acting & Production for Film course is set to provide a unique and immersive experience for young actors, introducing them to the world of film production and acting techniques tailored for the camera. In collaboration with Hōʻike Kauai Community Television, students will gain hands-on experience and insight into the production of and acting in film.
Following the launch, HCT Theatre Academy has outlined an exciting lineup of courses catering to different skill levels and interests:
Intro to Acting (Winter): An engaging course designed to introduce aspiring actors to the fundamentals of acting, fostering creativity, and building a strong foundation in the performing arts.
Improve your Improv (Spring): Unleash creativity and build confidence with our Improv Workshop! This class introduces fundamental improv skills through fun games and collaborative activities. Boost communication, spontaneity, and teamwork in a supportive environment. No experience needed—just come ready to laugh, learn, and let your imagination shine!
Acting 1 (Spring): Building on the basics, this course delves deeper into acting techniques, character development, and scene work, preparing students for more advanced challenges.
Acting 2 (Fall): The pinnacle of the academy's acting curriculum, this course challenges participants to refine their skills further, exploring advanced acting methods and preparing them for the stage and screen.
These courses are strategically structured as prerequisites for one another, ensuring a progressive and comprehensive learning experience for participants.
In addition to the seasonal courses, HCT Theatre Academy is excited to offer one-week School Break Bootcamps in the spring (Spring Sing) and fall (A Spooky Cabaret). These intensive programs provide students with an immersive experience, allowing them to hone their skills and work collaboratively on creative projects.
Furthermore, the academy will host Musical Audition Workshops in the spring, providing valuable insights and training for students aspiring to audition for musical productions. Led by Tom Frascatore, these workshops aim to equip participants for upcoming auditions for HCT’s Summer Stars, After Dark, or Fall Show programs, or for any future audition they may face!
HCT Theatre Academy is dedicated to fostering creativity, building confidence, and nurturing a passion for the performing arts in the youth of Kaua’i. The courses are open to children and teens (some classes include adults who are eager to explore the world of acting and production.
